Father's Day on the lake

On Father's Day this year we had two things to celebrate, the three fathers in E's family (Steve, E and and Joe) but also the fact that Steve celebrated his 60th birthday a few days before! So we decided to surprise him with a boat rental on Deer Creek Reservoir. He was surprised!

The weather was hot and windy, but we set out just the same. The kids were LOVING the big waves as the boat bounced along over the choppy water. Sometimes waves would splash up and over the bow and the kids would scream and squeal in delight.

At one point we stopped the boat so the swimmers could jump in. Unfortunately we didn't stop in an area with calm water, and once Juliet, David, E and I were in the water the boat drifted away in the wind. After a few precarious moments in deep water with big waves, the boat circled around and rescued us. Next time we will wear lifejackets and not jump into water with huge swells that were breaking over our heads.

The rest of the afternoon was filled with wind, more wind and wind. Finally it died down and we were able to relax on calm water.

Happiest birthday Steve, and happiest Father's Day to all the dads in my life.

Two of the three fathers and James. James loves to drive the boat.
E's shirt was perfect.
Waves!
A couple of times the waves were so big they covered the kids' heads!
Boating with a view! Love Mt. Timp back there.

I think it's amazing things can be kind of miserable, and yet we all still fun!
