Who does he look like?

Every new parent hears the question "who does he look like?" when they have a new baby. James, to me, looks like James, a perfect mix of E and I.

That said, he has E's nose. Right down to the little flat plane on the top, they share nose's to the T. And, you could say, he has my hair, however, mine is a touch darker. When I was a baby, I also had a full head of hair, and it was long and black, lots like our little guy's.

When my mom first saw James in the hospital she kept saying "he looks exactly like you as a baby!" I couldn't believe it, until I came home, and dug out the first few photos taken of me 28 years ago. She was right. In our first days of life, James and I looked very very similar. Now that he's almost four weeks old (sob!), James is looking more and more like his Daddy.

I scanned some old photos to prove it.

Here I am, about a week old. Notice the abundance of black hair!
And James at about a week old. We look a lot alike, don't you think?
Photo right after I was born. Taken at the hospital.
Photo of James, at two days old. Very similar indeed. (Even the blankets are a near match, other than the fact that mine was pink and his is blue.)

Old school

Today I decided to work on a very special blog entry that will be posted on February 14th. While going through some old photos I found this one. I adore it. Everyone is so little, and there are E and I, newly in love! I told E that I loved him for the very first time in August, right around the same time this photo was taken. So here we are, my sibs and E and I, enjoying the wild flowers in the Utah mountains.

Nastalgia times two

Remember this post where I scanned old childhood photos from my albums? I decided it was time to do it again, and so tonight I pulled out a few of my albums and started to find photos that I love. Here are a few:

Aren't Brandon, Melissa and I adorable? I was the only dark haired child for so long, now Brandon's hair is as dark as mine, and Melissa's is a lot darker too. This photo was taken on Melissa's first birthday.
Melissa and I, similar age as above. Melissa is one, I am nine.
I've always loved art, and when I was eight I entered this painting into a contest at the library. It was chosen to visit other libraries across the country for a Children's Art Show.
And, while I was working on this post tonight I got a call from my life long friend Allison. Allison and I have literally been friends since before we could walk. Since we were chatting, I told her I'd scan an old photo of the two of us. We are adorable.

Autumn in Utah

Autumn has arrived and it is gorgeous. Absolutely stunning. E and I went on a little walk the other night and captured a few photos, here are my favorites:

The job hunt is going fine, slow but steady. There are plenty of things that are needed around the house, so I am enjoying my time home. I've never spent much time at home because I had a full time job before I graduated from college. I am liking the change. I fill my day with home improvement projects and crafts. One thing with being home more is I am thinking about being a mother more than ever. I hope E agrees that this is not a problem.

Today I'm going to seal our front porch, organize the storage room and continue to look for a job. I'm pretty good about keeping busy.

Funny things I said as a kid

While setting up our library I flipped through some old photo albums my mom put together years ago. The year that I was three years old she kept a calendar and each day wrote either what we were doing or funny things I said. I love this idea, and want to do one myself when I have children. Anyway, reading it yesterday made me laugh out loud! I was such a funny kid.

Here are a few of the things I said:
  • "Mommy, when we have the new baby (my brother Brandon) let's name him Santa Claus" only a three year old would think Santa Claus is a good name for a baby. My poor brother would kill me if we named him Santa.
  • I said "I'm not a basket case!" I'm not sure where I heard the term 'basket case', or if it was in reference to me, but alas, "I'm not a basket case!
  • I told my mom "I love her eleven bits". Boy good thing too, I don't know what would happen if I only loved her ten bits.
  • I told my dad "not to slurp, it is bad manners." I still say this, mostly to my husband.
  • "Daddy, it is hard being a big girl." Boy, I was so wise beyond my years. It is hard being a big girl.
  • I called my grandma "the old lady." Well it's true, right? Especially compared to me, when I was only three. Everyone older than five was really old.
  • Remember how I mentioned that I named all my dolls awesome names like Soft Baby and Big Baby. Well one day I told my mom "Soft Baby is being a pain in the ass." Poor Soft Baby, I'm sure she was a nice girl.
  • "There's sperm in my juice." Wow, just wow. I sure hope I was wrong.
  • One day in December we went to visit Santa. Afterwords I said "Santa didn't bite or lick me when I sat on his lap." That, I can say, is a very good thing.
  • "Mom, if your underpants go any lower I'm going to see your butt hole." Haha!! What an awesome three year old I was.
  • "Wouldn't it be nice if the lights on police cars were pink and purple?" I have to say, that would be kinda nice.
  • "Mom, you look fat, and always will." How cruel a kid can be, but it is funny.

Happy Easter

I've said in previous posts how much I love Easter. I have my entire life. It might be due to the fact that it is FINALLY getting to feel like spring in Utah, or the fact that little girls wear wonderfly girly clothes, or that my birthday is so close to the lovely holiday.

I knew that I had some wonderful Easter photos from when I was a child, so today before we head out for the Easter festivities, I dug out some of my favorites. These are from 1986, when I was 5. We are celebrating at my Great Grandma Hilda's house. In one photo you can see my Aunt Penny and Uncle Dave in the background. In another you see a really hot guy, yea, that's my dad. I love the dress I'm wearing this Easter, my grandma made it for me, she made most of the fancy clothes I wore when I was little.
