The mountains are calling and I must go

"The mountains are calling and I must go." One of my all time favorite quotes from John Muir. Love it. It not only describes me, but I think it describes my entire little family.
On Sunday we took a drive up to Silver Lake for the first time this season. Last year we went to Silver Lake a ton and I was excited to go back this year. Juliet had never been up to the top of the mountains, so it was a special trip all around.

We had such a mild winter here that there was hardly any snow. Only a tiny bit was around in the shadiest part of the forest.
This little one is becoming a good explorer before she can even walk. Also, I love her double chin. :)
Did I say that all of these photos in this entire post were shot by E? Yea, he's awesome.
And this guy is such a good hiker.
James found the ground squirrels hilarious.

Our life with our little boy can be summed up in two words: sticks and rocks. Yep, that's our kid. I hope that now that summer is here, the mountains will continue calling. We will make sure to always answer.
All the hiking must have worn this one out. After we got home she decided on a little cat nap on the lawn as we were making dinner. I just loved this moment so much, from my beautiful peonies and Buddha, to my sweet sweet little girl.
Hope you had a good weekend as well.

    Hi Jess!

How are you? I've been thinking about you and your family. I haven't checked your blog for a while, so I logged in today to see what you've been up to. I should have known better! Your photos and stories make me want to quit my job and just move in with you as part of your family. Oh, James and Juliet are so so sweet. The "Sweet James" video you made was the best - his laugh when Ethan throws those huge rocks into the water is just contagious. I love it. That song makes me think of poodle skirts and soda fountains, too.

You look so good, too! I think the long hair pulled back is absolutely GORGEOUS on you. The colors in the new header really pop, while still seeming completely natural. How long do you think you'll be able to get it before caving and going back to the short bob? Because I must play with that hair before it's gone - it's just begging to be put into French braids by me, can't you hear it?? ;-)

I can't believe Juliet is already four months. Her face is delicious! The last time I saw you, we were still waiting for her to make her debut. And my goodness, am I allowed to comment on how handsome Ethan is? That Mother's Day photo of him bringing you coffee and peonies in bed on Mother's Day is the best. No wonder your kids are so perfect - with your and his genes in them, how could they not be? I can already begin seeing where Juliet is going to look like you.

I just wanted to say hi and check in! I'd like to have your family over sometime, but I know it's such a drive for two little ones. Maybe a lunch date is in order before it gets too hot out? Oooooh, or maybe a group hike to Temple Quarry Trail, since Andy and I have never been and you seem to have a lot of good things to say about it.... Something to consider!

I hope you're doing well, Jess. Please give hugs to everyone for me!
