Solstice Party

Many years my Aunt Laura hosts a Solstice Party on or around the winter solstice. We were so excited when she told us about the party this year, because my two cousins, who are off at collage most the year, were home in time for this party.

I dressed up. I dressed up my little boy. I made a huge plate of the most beautiful Italian meats to share with my family. I packed my camera and the external flash (which is the only decent way to get good photos on the darkest day of the year). I was thrilled, thinking about the beautiful photos and the blog post I wanted to do (I had this blog post in my mind, from a few years ago).

I arrived and James was happy. I turned on the camera and got one photo of my delicious meat tray:
And then my camera died. I hadn't charged the battery, nor checked the status in over a month. Missing using my big camera at a family party felt like missing a friend, or a sister. Things were just not right.

So I grabbed my iPhone and made the best of the situation. The photos are blurry and grainy, but they are captured, and that's what's important.

After my Grandma's big fall less than a month ago, she's been trying her hardest to get in and out of her wheelchair and even walk. Her goal? Coming to this party. So so so glad she was able to attend.
Me, with my mom and Grandma.
James and "Sissa" had to check out this decoration of Laura's. He was in love with it.
Party in full swing. Everyone chatting and eating and drinking and laughing at silly James. Happy Solstice.
And Melissa captured these four photos for her Instragram. As soon as I saw it, I insisted she email it to me. The food was delish!
