Swimmin' with Auntie Melissa

Auntie Melissa is one of James's favorite people. Right now James is going through the totally awesome developmental stage refereed to stranger anxiety (which is really not that awesome) which means that he's only happy with either E or I are holding him. Everyone else, no way. He fusses, he cries and if I dare walk out of his line of sight he bawls. Yes, it's nice to know he loves his Mama, but it would be nice if his Grandmas could hold him once in awhile.

Anyway, for some reason he loves Melissa and only fusses minimally with her. So today when Melissa came over for lunch and a swim date, James was all to happy to give her his best grins, lots of laughs and some good swims at the pool.

Melissa asked me at one point "does he just smile all day?" and I said "yes, pretty much!"

James is becoming quite the master swimmer. When I'm holding him he loves to kick and try to take huge gulps of pool water. He also quite likes his little floaty. Today he was especially happy because we brought his new favorite toy to the pool: the baster brush. This guy likes baby toys ok, but what he loves? Adult items like E's watch, the whisk and apparently the baster brush.

"Auntie Melissa, would you like to baste anything?"
"Mama, would you like to baste anything? This basting brush is the best!"
And this series cracks me up. After we dried off and changed James Melissa was giving him kissies, which she does a lot.
"Oh no Auntie, not this again..."
"Secretly I kind of like it"
"Okay, enough is enough."

  3. Isn't it hilarious that kids like objects that aren't toys. Logan's favorites are wooden spoons, mom's cell phone and the remote. It was fun seeing you the other day. I would love to get together for a play date sometime if your up for it.
